Ep. 65: From the Army to the Smithsonian – Military Leaders & IFMA Connections Deliver Facility Management Success with Scottie Benjamin
Scottie Benjamin is Building Manager at the National Museum of American History, part of the Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC. Mike Petrusky asks Scottie about his career journey from Army Veteran to FM leader and they agree that military service is often an ideal background that provides valuable experience for future workplace leaders. As long time members of the Capital Chapter of IFMA, Mike & Scottie discuss how it is essential to engage with the FM community if we are to keep pace with the fast-changing world of the built environment. Mike asks Scottie about some of the unique challenges he encounters while managing the people and historic artifacts housed in a facility that is over fifty years old and how IFMA connections help him navigate new technologies and find the right solutions for the museum. Their conversation leads Mike and Scottie to discover a common passion for music which inspires an exciting and upbeat Stevie Wonder version of “podcast karaoke”!
